Master plan studio now open in Flint

FLINT (WJRT) -

(02/08/13) - Flint's master plan committee has opened a project studio in downtown.

The studio space is where the community can check out what's happening in the city and give their thoughts on how they want their town to look in the future.

The Master Plan committee has just completed what's called an existing conditions report. The project studio is located in the Capital Theatre on 2nd street.

It's open to the public Friday night until 9. The research findings are all on the wall inside the studio. There's population and demographic information along with other key areas like existing recreation facilities, school data and information about the city's vacant properties.

The master plan committee wants the project studio to be a place where the community can share ideas and recommendations for how they want to see their city in the future.

They've identified three key components - education, public safety and economic development. Flint Mayor Dayne Walling encourages everyone to take a peak inside.

"It's exciting that there's a place where people can walk in, see the same maps, same reports that our team is looking at and give their input and ideas. That's what this space is all about. If you're downtown, stop by, take five minutes to share your ideas."

"I think it's hope. I think it gives us an opportunity to push the pause bottom and take stock of where we are at and where we want to go in the future. I think it's citizens who will have a big say in that," said Todd Lamb.

The project studio is open this Saturday during Flint's Fire and Ice festival from 2 - 8 p.m.

Normal business hours on Tuesdays and Fridays.

On March 9, they have scheduled a visioning session where they want to the community to participate.
