(02/10/13) - Union members are still fighting as Delphi Flint East prepares to shutdown, leaving nearly 300 workers without a job.
For seven years, Kim Morgan has punched in and out of Delphi Flint East. Her income has been vital to keeping her family a float.
"My husband didn't have a job for three years and we carried all that, I just felt we could have some breathing room right now, I just had that taken out from underneath me," she said.
But last week, nearly 300 workers received a letter from GM, saying production is ending due to product changes. Delphi says the work there was continued past an agreement reached in 2007.
The plant is operated by Delphi, but with unionized GM employees. The parts supplier had a deal with GM to use the automaker's Flint area workers through 2011.
Morgan says they still have so many questions that need answering.
"They owe us something, they owe us a job, we did them a favor, we helped them out, we have a unique work force," Morgan said.
Last week, UAW Local 651 President Art Reyes said this isn't over, and he's still fighting for his members.
"We will make sure our members are taken care of, we do not leave people behind," he said.
And Morgan says she's not losing hope.
"I hope my union does something for me, I hope we stand together as one, I hope we work this out," she said.
UAW Local 651 workers approved a strike authorization vote, but company officials say the decision was made long before that.
