MICHIGAN (WJRT) -

(02/11/13) - The U.S. Department of Education has received a complaint asking it to remove the nickname and mascot from some Michigan schools.

On the list, the Bay City Western Warriors and Chesaning Indians.

MLIVE says there are 35 Michigan schools with American Indian names.

The Michigan Department of Civil Rights says it reinforces a stereotype that could impact the potential for students with American Indian ancestry.
