(02/11/13) - Even in the middle of winter, it's never too cold to start thinking about taking the car out of the garage.
"Oh, yeah. You spend the whole winter getting them fixed up, repaired, and ready for the trip," said Denny Keyworth, of Back to the Bricks.
That trip is the Back to the Bricks promotional tour, which begins on June 7. Registration is now open.
"We're really excited about it. The guys have done a great job helping me plan it, and I think it'll be one of the best things we've ever done," said Roberta Vasilow, of Back to the Bricks.
Last year, more than 200 cars joined the tour for a trip through the Heart of Michigan. This year's cruise heads across the state again, specifically from Lakeshore to Lakeshore.
"First we're going to Rockford, then to Hart for the Asparagus Festival, and we'll be part of a parade. Then we're going to Cadillac and then West Branch and Oscoda," Vasilow said.
Along the way, cruisers will be beating the drum, encouraging people to drop by Flint for the ninth annual Back to the Bricks car show next August.
"That's what it's all about, fueling the economy, and getting people out and about to see the cars and spend some money," Vasilow said.
"The tour is a great time. You see a lot of areas that you haven't seen before, and all of the cities welcome us and promote the event as well," Keyworth said.
Back to the Bricks last year brought in close to half a million visitors to downtown Flint. This year's version runs the week of Aug. 12, and organizers promise it will be bigger and better than ever.
"We have a lot of new things that we'll introduce this year. Many of the things we tried last year were successful, like our car corral and Corvette reunion, which will be bigger this year. We keep trying to mix it up and bring in more activities every year," Keyworth said.
