(02/14/13) - One of Michigan's largest tourist attractions opened its doors
Thursday morning.
People waited for hours just to get in to Cabela's Outpost on Tittabawassee Road
in Kochville Township. When we got there Thursday morning, the line was in the
parking lot. The doors opened after 10:30 a.m.
For years, people had to travel to Dundee to their shopping. They won't have to
travel far anymore.
The popular chain is well known to hunters and other people who like the
outdoors.
The grand opening is part of a week-long celebration. There's family events,
giveaways, outdoor celebrities and more.
"It's exciting to be a part of grand opening. Got to take advantage of that,"
said shopper Bernie Youngblood.
This will bring more than 100 full and part-time Cabela's employees.
The Outpost will be smaller than the Dundee store, but it's expected to attract
customers from all over Northern Michigan.
"My dad is really excited for it," said shopper Kristin Richins.
Business owners and staff are excited because they believe they'll feel
the economic impact.
"We hope that the presence of the store and the jobs created will boost the
economy and the community," said Wes Remmer, spokesperson. "People come here to
shop in this area already. We hope to add to the draw so everybody wins."
