(02/14/13) - Things were a little hectic, Thursday, at Vogt's Flowers in downtown Flint.
"It is way crazy. It's the busiest day of the year, without a question," said Kreg Krueger, Vogt's Flowers owner.
Valentine's Day brings big romance and big business to Vogt's. The Garland Street warehouse was rockin' by 6 a.m.
"We have like 37 package drivers. On a regular day, I have three drivers. There are 850 packages that have to get out of this warehouse on time," said Erin Meadows, Vogt's Delivery director.
Vogt's has been in business since 1919. The biggest seller back then is still the biggest seller today.
"The roses are what says 'I love you,' and we're going to sell about 18,000," Krueger said.
Krueger loves playing cupid on Valentine's Day, and he loves reading the cards attached to all those orders, especially the ones that score high in the 'sassy meter.'
"We've got 'Rock Star' over here. We have 'get your freaky on.' Then we also have grandpa getting some flowers, so it's nice and sweet, too," he said.
It's not just the deliveries that make the register ring on Valentine's Day at Vogt's. There's plenty of walk up business as well, with many customers of what you might call 'the last minute variety.'
"We do things at the last minute, but we've got to do it right. I'm going to get her a nice flower arrangement, and that'll keep me out of the dog house," said customer John Dixon.
Every year, it's the fear of sleeping on the couch that brings tons of customers through the door right before closing time.
"It's great. It's actually quite amusing and fun when they come in that late, because they're desperate," Krueger said.
If you're a last minute Valentine's Day shoppers, no worries, Vogt's will stay open until at least 7 p.m.
