Copper wiring stolen from lamp posts at Girls Scouts building

Posted: Updated:

(02/15/13) - Lamp posts aren't the typical target for copper thieves, but they do get hit from time to time.

It happened in Flint Township, earlier this week, at a Girl Scouts Service Center.

The building is off Austins Parkway and not far from the freeway.

Michael Baird, a spokesman for the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, says copper wiring from stolen from the lamp posts in the parking lot.

He didn't say how many were hit or how the wiring was accessed.

Baird says it happened around 4:30 a.m. Monday.

The building and parking lot are under video surveillance, but the statement released by Baird didn't say anything about anyone being seen on the footage or if cameras caught anyone.

Baird says the building was secured and not burglarized.

No one was in the building when it happened.

Baird says the Girl Scouts are cooperating with Flint Township Police while they investigate.
