(02/18/13) - A fifth Mt. Pleasant-area business was robbed Monday afternoon.
The latest happened in the 100 block of South Mission, around 2 p.m.. All five
armed robberies happened within three-miles of one another.
Our ABC12 photographer was actually getting video of a Mt. Pleasant police car
parked in the area, as a deterrent, when the robbery happened.
It was parked across the street from the Cash Advance store on South Mission.
Across the street is where the latest armed robbery happened.
We followed police as they searched the area looking for the man responsible.
They believe the same man robbed all five places.
In each case, he walks into the store, shows the worker a gun, and then leaves
with money.
He's described as a Hispanic or dark-skinned white man, about 30-years-old.
Monday afternoon, witnesses told police he was wearing a 'hunting-style' hat
with flaps over his ears, jeans, a black coat, and a flannel shirt.
This time, he ran from the store. Other times, witnesses have seen him get in a
dark colored truck or SUV.
The armed robberies started just after midnight Saturday. Two gas stations, two
cash advance stores and a Subway have been hit.
"It could say a lot of things, he's desperate," said Officer Jeff Thompson, of
the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Moments after the latest store was robbed Monday afternoon, police thought they
had their man. Turns out they didn't. As it unfolded, Robbie Ettinger and his
friend were headed to the store. The pair was searched, questioned, and quickly
released.
"I'm not mad or anything about it. It's just an honest mistake," Ettinger said.
Jessie Badgley was at work Saturday, near the first cash advance store when it
was robbed.
"That could have been us, that could have been our business, and that could have
been me. And I'm glad that it wasn't, and so it is very scary to think that, you
know, someone, you know, threatens you with a gun," she said.
Obviously, a lot of people on-edge in the area.
