Carrollton begins search for new superintendent

Posted: Updated:

(02/19/13) - A Mid-Michigan school district wants help from the community as it looks for a new leader.

In January, Dr. Craig Douglas announced plans to retire from his job as superintendent of Carrollton Public Schools. Dr. Douglas has been with the district for 18 years.

Community members ABC12 spoke with say it will be tough finding someone to fill his shoes, but they got a chance to say what qualities they'd like to see in the next superintendent Tuesday night.

The Carrollton Board of Education invited the public to join in on the selection process during a special community forum. Those who attended the meeting gave input on a number of issues, including the first steps they believe should be taken to find the right person, and what they want the next school leader to focus on in the district.

Dr. Douglas says he will not be involved with the selection process, but he will work closely with whoever is chosen to replace him.

"My commitment to the next leader is to help bridge that gap from the conclusion of this school year into the next school year and beyond. I hope the next leader the same sort of support that I've enjoyed because that has been very, very important to any of the success the district has had," he said.

The district does have a specialist working with the board of education to find a qualified candidate, but school board members want to hear from the public.
