SWARTZ CREEK (WJRT) -

(02/23/13) - Keeping families together during a time of struggle. That was the goal of a fundraiser on Saturday.

A benefit concert took place at the Swartz Creek United Methodist Church. It featured the Rock of Ages Big Band.

Family Promise of Genesee County put on the event, and they are a branch of a larger national organization.

They are raising money to help keep families under one roof while they are homeless.

Lindsay Moore of Family Promise of Genesee County told ABC12 that the program is gaining popularity in Mid-Michigan.

"Nationally, Family Promise is more than 70 percent effective in placing those families in sustainable housing, so we know that this model works and we know that this model will work in Genesee County because we've seen it work in other places across Michigan," Moore said.

Organizers hope that Saturday's event will help raise funds to help the organization grow in Genesee County.
