(03/04/13) - For the first time in a long time there is a new food option for folks near Flint's Kettering University.
Einstein Bros Bagels is now open at the corner of University and Chevrolet on Kettering's campus. A convenience store was torn down to make way for the new building.
Friday was the first day the new business was open to the public. A grand opening celebration is planned for March 22.
"We really wanted to expand the option for students for choices rather then just going to cafeteria every day," said Nick Moorehead, General Manager with Sodexo at Kettering.
A variety of bagels, sandwiches and coffee drinks area available and some of it is even covered under the campus meal plan.
Einstein Bros Bagels is open everyday from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
"We may tweak," Moorehead said. "It depends on the demand. Right now we feel it's a pretty good mix because the student population gets up about that time and we serve dinner over at the cafeteria so they also have that as an option for dinner."
There will be another option for students soon too - a late night restaurant right across the street at the campus center.
Moorehead said it may be open by May.
The building housing Einstein Bros Bagels is also home to a brand new Flint Police Service Center.
