GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -
(03/06/13) - Charges have been issued in the murder of a Genesee County man.
Michael Arellano, 65, was found shot and killed in his Forest Township home Friday night.
We now know it was his wife who was arrested Monday.
Diane Arellano, 54, was charged with murder, felony firearm and domestic violence Wednesday afternoon.
Police allege she shot and killed her husband with her handgun, during a fight, then hid the handgun in the woods some 15 miles away.
"I wasn't aware there were three charges," said Diane Arellano during her arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
The Michigan State Police detective getting her warrant authorized, earlier in the day, told District Court Judge Mark McCabe that Diane admitted, during an interview, to shooting her husband Michael with her handgun.
Police knew she had a license to carry a concealed handgun, but they couldn't find the gun. Police say they have it now.
It was found hidden in the woods at the Burton VG's, according to that court testimony from Detective Sgt. Joe Jones.
Surveillance cameras at the store captured her vehicle around 8 p.m. Friday, according to Jones.
Her son, Michael's stepson, found him shot and dead in the basement of their Forest Township home about 25 minutes later.
Michael had been shot twice, once in the chest and once in the back of the head, according to Jones.
"I'm asking if you can give me a bond? My son is home and doesn't know how to do the house payment," said Diane during her arraignment. "If I'm out on bond I can get an attorney and get money from the bank."
McCabe denied bond and appointed an attorney for her.
Her next court hearing is scheduled for next week.
