Flint Twp. roundabout pushed back to 2014

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(03/08/13) - Construction on a controversial roundabout has been pushed back to 2014.

It will be the first in Genesee County, at the intersection of Court and Dye in Flint Township, and maybe not the last.

John Daly, with the Genesee COunty Road Commission, says construction has been pushed back to ensure it gets done in time to give drivers time to get used to it before winter.

Daly says a second roundabout, at Elms and Hill in Mundy Township, is under serious consideration.  The Road Commission is applying for grants to try and fund it.

"People think it's a four way stop," said Julie Hallmark.  She used to live at that intersection.

"We need to do something there," she said.  "I, myself, had an accident there."

Hallmark's insurance business sits near another intersection where another roundabout could go - Linden and Grand Blanc Roads.  Hallmark doesn't think one is needed there.

Daly says it and a couple of other locations, around the Grand Blanc area, are being eyed, but just as ideas right now.

Grand Blanc and Embury Roads in Grand Blanc Township, for example.

"It's impossible between eight and nine in the morning and between 4:30 and 5:30 at night," said John Tuohy.  He lives and drives nearby.

He thinks a roundabout there would be "suicidal."

"I'd much rather see a traffic signal here," Tuohy said.
