(03/11/13) - Morley Companies, one of Saginaw's largest employers, is being
recognized for more than just 150 years of business in the community.
"Morley Company has went above and beyond in recognizing the business value
older workers bring to their organization," said Andrea Bridgewater, of
Experience Works.
Monday, Experience Works, one of the nation's largest organizations serving
older workers, named Morley the 2013 Champion Employer for the state of
Michigan.
"We are so proud to receive this," said Paul Furlo, president of Morley
Companies.
Experience Works chose Morley because of its dedication to train job seekers
over the age of 50, who often find themselves out of work with limited skills.
"It says that the company cares about society, and cares about those looking for
work," Bridgewater said.
Workers like 62-year-old James Goss.
"I moved here from the Detroit area, and I came back here to assist my dad with
his health situation, I was out of work for a period of time," Goss said.
He's recently finished special classes through Morley.
"Computer training and customer service interactions," he said.
Now he's ready to start working. He offers this advice to anyone who might find
themselves with no job and down on their luck.
"Just don't give up. Have confidence in yourself and your skills, and everything
else will take care of itself," he said.
Morley says hiring mature seasoned workers makes the company better.
"There is no question about that, our firm is turning 150years old, so,
certainly we value maturity and experience," Furlo said.
Morley employs more than 1,500 people.
