Homicide victims relative pleads guilty to probation violation

Posted: Updated:

(03/11/13) - He reported the deaths of his mother and sister last week in Saginaw. Monday, he went before a judge in an unrelated case.

Police say Stephon Roby called 911 Wednesday after finding the bodies of his mother Leigh King and her 11-year old daughter Sharlea in their home on the city's southeast side.

Five days later, Roby stood before Saginaw County Circuit Court Judge Fred Borchard in trouble for a separate violation. He was put on probation after resisting arrest and being in procession of a controlled substance last March, both felony offenses. Roby was supposed to be living in an apartment by himself, but moved in with his mother and sister at their home on Hess street without notifying authorities.

"It's violation of his probation. They didn't know where he was and they still don't know really where he's been," said Tim Lynch, the attorney assigned to represent Roby.

It's also believed that Roby may suffer from a mental illness.

"My understanding is that he is disabled, receiving SSI, at least the benefits, and so I would suggest he has probably a mental health worker that is assisting him with apartment living in mental affairs," Lynch said.

Police have not released any new information about the double homicide investigation, but they have not ruled Roby out as a suspect. He has another court appearance on the probation violation scheduled later this month.
