FLINT (WJRT) -

(03/12/13) - Genesee County voters are one step closer to choosing a new state senator for the 27th district in Tuesday's special primary election.

The polls closed at 8 p.m. As of 11 p.m., here's where the numbers stand right now with 85 percent of the precincts counted.

On the Republican ticket, Robert Daunt is up by 53 percent of the vote over Adam Ford.

On the Democratic ticket, Jim Ananich has a strong lead with 62 percent of the vote compared to Woodrow Stanley.

Ananich held a watch party at Luigi's in Flint, and a big group of people came out to support him, including the mayor.

In total, there are five democrat and two republican candidates in this race. This district covers Flint and several communities in the western part of the county.

The seat was left vacant by democrat John Gleason. He was elected Genesee County clerk in November.

Tuesday's winners will go against each other in a special general election on May 7.
