SWARTZ CREEK (WJRT) -

(03/13/13) - A recent coin drive at a Mid-Michigan school was motivated by a simple idea.

Students at Elms Road Elementary competed to see how much cash they could collect for the past several weeks.

Wednesday was the day to total it up and make an official donation in excess of $1,000.

"We asked them to bring it in small amounts, big amounts, whatever they had, and add it to the classroom jar. We let them know it'd be a classroom competition and whichever class raised the most would get to pick the charity or the organization to give the proceeds of the entire building," said forth grade teacher Jeremy Love.

Fourth graders came out on top in the in-school 'cash competition'. They selected Children's Miracle Network to receive the money.
