(03/21/13) - There are new developments in an Upper Peninsula home invasion and assault case with ties to Mid-Michigan.

It was last Friday, March 15, that we told you how two search warrants were issued on two homes in Bay County, one in Bay City and the other in Essexville.

The Michigan State Police said the searches were conducted in conjunction with a home invasion in Alger County on March 12.

A 19-year-old man was beaten at the home near Munising, and property was stolen.

Thursday, two Bay City residents are behind bars in connection with the case.

Twenty-nine-year-old Richard Van Pelt is charged with home invasion, unlawful imprisonment, assault and armed robbery. Twenty-year-old Samantha Menerey is also charged in the case.

They are both being held on $100,000 bonds.

Police say there could be more arrests in the case.
