ISABELLA COUNTY (WJRT) -

(03/16/13) - A Coleman man is behind bars, accused of trying to kill his son.

Michigan State Police say the 50-year-old man hit his 27-year-old son in the head with a claw hammer during a fight.

It happened in the 6000 block of East County Line Road. That's in Isabella County's Wise Township.

The son was originally taken to a Mt. Pleasant hospital, but was later transferred to St. Mary's of Michigan in Saginaw. He is recovering.

The father is in jail. He's expected to be charged Tuesday.

He faces several charges. The most serious is 'assault with intent to murder'. The father is also charged with 'assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder', 'assault with a dangerous weapon', 'domestic violence-aggravated' and 'operating - license suspended, revoked, denied'.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
