Birch Run native safely finishes Iditarod race

(03/17/13) - Birch Run native and first-time Iditarod musher James Volek, has crossed the finish line.

According to the race's website, Volek made it to Nome, Alas. Saturday night at 8:52 p.m.

He was the 52nd musher to finish the race. It started with 66 people and their dogs. Twelve have dropped out. Two people are still on the roughly 1,000 mile course.

It took Volek more than 13 days to finish.
