Emotional sendoff for local troops in Corunna

CORUNNA (WJRT) -

(03/17/13) - Friends and family of the 144th Military Police Company wished their loved ones a safe trip at a departure ceremony at Corunna High School on Sunday.

The unit is headed to Afghanistan as many U.S. troops will soon be pulling out. While troops we talked to say they're optimistic and excited for the trip, parents of the troops say they're very proud, but also very worried. "Well, they'll be reducing the troops probably next year, and if he's one of them that's left behind, I don't know," said one parent. "It don't seem like things are getting much better there. It's a little scary."

The troops are scheduled to serve for about a year. They leave on Monday.
