Man steals car with baby boy inside, baby found safe hours later

FLINT (WJRT) -

(03/31/13) - It was a mother's worst nightmare. A woman's baby boy was in the backseat of her car when a carjacker jumped inside and drove away.

It started Saturday night in Flint around 11 p.m. at the Sunoco gas station on Atherton.

A mother went inside, and left her car running. Her 1-year-old baby, Deonte Keyes Jr., was in the back seat when a man jumped inside and took off, heading west down Atherton.

The mother and another customer, Marshey Wilson, saw the whole thing unfold. They ran outside and hopped in Wilson's car, frantically chasing after the man and her baby boy.

In the mayhem, Wilson ended up crashing her own car at the corner of Ogema and Hemphill.

But the carjacker was still on the run. Finally, he ditched the car at Western and Layton near Rollingwood Park, but he took off on foot.

Thankfully, Deonte was not hurt.

Police have not tracked down the carjacker. He's described as a white man, last seen wearing a beige baseball hat with a blue jean rim and a tan coat.
