Woman killed in double shooting outside Flint club, person of interest identified

(04/22/13) - Flint Police say a fight, between women, led to a double shooting outside of a club on the city's north side early Monday morning.

Havana Wright, 22, was killed.   A security guard was also shot, but is OK, according to police.

Officers responded to the Palm Tree Lounge around 1:30 a.m. That's in the 4100 block of Clio Road.

Police want to talk to 22-year-old Michelle McIntosh.  She's considered a person of interest in the double shooting.

Call Flint Police at, 810-237-6905, if you know where she is.

Wright's death is the third deadly shooting outside of the club in less than a year.

Antwan Tipton, 27, was killed in late February after firing at a security guard, according to police.  The guard then shot back at him and killed him.  The Genesee County Prosecutor's Office will decide if the shooting was justified.

Phillip Johnson Jr., 20, was killed in July.  Ambrianna Odom, 20,  was also hit as she was leaving the Liquor Wheel right next door.  She lived, but was hospitalized for quite some time.  The victims did not know each other.  Odom was hit by a stray bullet.

After a string of similar shootings in 2005, city officials pushed to padlock Club Xclusive which is just a few doors down from the Palm Tree Lounge.

"They were killing in the parking lot. They were killing in the club.  Something had to be done with that and we're going to have to do something about this," says Councilwoman Jackie Poplar.  She represents that ward.

"Our goal every night is to leave safely and go home," says Darrick Collins, co-owner of the Palm Tree Lounge.

But it didn't end that way this time.

"Young lady lost her life," Collins says.  "Our condolences go out to her family."

Collins was working overnight when the double shooting occurred.

He's lost for words and isn't sure what else he can do to improve safety at his business.

Collins says he's strict about safety.  Starting every night at seven, men entering his club get patted down and women are wanded to make sure they don't have weapons.  He says he's done everything Poplar has suggested including adding security cameras outside and extra lighting.

Collins has armed guards and one of the only business open and operating on a stretch of Clio Road where there are few others.  He wants to keep his doors open.

Poplar says Collins has been proactive and cooperative.  She'd like to see a focus on the outside elements - getting people out of the parking lot once they leave the lounge or the liquor store next door.

"If someone has suggestions, we're open.  If city officials have suggestions, we're open," Collins says.
