Loud, unexplained booms continue in Genesee County

Posted: Updated:
GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(04/23/13) - For the past several months, people in all parts of Genesee County have reported hearing loud booms, but no one has been able to track where the noise is coming from.

Some heard that strange sound, again, Tuesday morning.

We thought we had it tracked to a construction site in Genesee Township. Genesee Township Police Chief John Mullaly said a building was being demolished and that's what people may have heard, but then he called back and said he was mistaken. There was no activity at that site Tuesday morning.

Edward LaFromboise lives behind that building. He didn't think much of it.

"Sounded like an explosion," he said.

Will McCallum agrees. He also lives in Genesee Township. He heard the sound Tuesday morning and has heard it other days, too.

"Sounded almost like an explosion, you know, from  when I was in the military," McCallum said.  "It shakes the house."

He's still wondering where that noise is coming from.

"Gotta be around here somewhere," McCallum said.

"People are just wanting to know what it is," said Thetford Township resident Joe Stanislaw.  "There's a percussion. I can't say it actually shakes my house, but there's a percussion involved with it."

Flint Police have fielded calls about the noise too, especially after a recent report about the department's bomb range at an undisclosed site in the city. Police have a "controlled range" they use to run exercises and detonate devices.

Flint Police tell ABC12 they were not at that site Tuesday morning and neither was any other agency.

People reported hearing just one loud noise Tuesday morning, but have heard several within seconds of each other on other days.
