New retail stores planned for Flint Township

FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(06/04/13) - Plans for new economic development in Flint Township are moving forward. The old Circuit City building on Miller Road will soon have new tenants.

Construction has begun on three new retail shops in the space. The developer, Loramax Stern, has already put up signs for Ulta, Five Below, and a Christmas tree shop is also in the works.

"In 2012, we saw a lot of activity in the building department and this is some of what we see. I think the economy is on the upswing," said Supervisor Karyn Miller.

Construction crews are turning the old Circuit City building into a multi-space shopping area with a cosmetic and beauty salon, a teen dollar store and a Christmas shop.

"We just want to invite them to come shop, eat and enjoy themselves."

Some are already looking forward to a boost in business. Samantha Singley, a dog groomer for PetSmart, can't wait to greet her new neighbors. "Hopefully we will get a whole new strip and make this place popping."

Cheryl Reid eats lunch on Miller Road. She's excited for a chance to shop at the new stores.

"Variety is a good thing. We haven't had variety here lately. I always enjoy new coffee shops even though we have a couple."

"We would like to see Costco here, those big store we would like to see. Flint Township is a great place to come," Miller said.

The township hopes all three stores will open before the end of the year. They also say Loramax Stern has also purchased the Borders building, but hasn't submitted a plan for it yet.
