TUSCOLA COUNTY (WJRT) -

(07/09/13) - A FedEx truck was stolen in Caro, but the thief didn't get far. Police say they tracked the suspect down while he was trying to break into a Tuscola County business Monday night. The building's landlord said he recognized the thief.

The attempted break in happened at Jungle Jims Hydroponics on Remington Road in Almer Township - just outside of Caro. Landlord James Zahraie said as soon as police described the thief to him, he knew who it was.

"The person was at my gas station prior to that incident. When police told me he was a black guy, skinny face, when they arrested him, I said, 'That's the guy, small fuzzy hair with a baby face, I know that's him.'"

Zahraie owns the Clark gas station in Caro and the Jungle Jims Hydroponics building on Remington in Almer Township.

According to police, that's where a witness saw a FedEx Home delivery truck parked in the parking lot around 10 p.m. Monday.

At the time, the witness thought the driver was breaking in through a window, but Tuscola County deputies already received a report of someone driving a FedEx truck recklessly earlier in the day.

When deputies arrived to the business, the thief, who was wearing a FedEx coat, ran from the scene. He was later caught hiding in a garage.

"They had a plan to break because they broke the screen at the grow mart. I am surprised that one of my customers goes over there, I don't know if he knows I own that building over there or not," Zahraie said.

At last check, the Tuscola County Sheriff's department said the thief hasn't been formally charged yet.
