(08/21/13) - The Health Plus Crim Festival of Races attracts runners from all four corners of world. This year, thousands received promotional materials for the race featuring an Oakland County woman.
Fifty-two-year-old Kathy Noble has collected several mementos from her 16 Crim races.
"I wrote my standings where I came out, and now it's not about that, it's just about the experience," she said.
Her love of running developed years ago. Kathy and her neighborhood friends were stay at home moms who needed to exercise. "So my neighbor and I joined the first Crim training group every Tuesday night, ran a different route part of the Crim course, we did the race."
From that point on, Kathy and her friends were hooked. Every year, they looked forward to Flint's most coveted race weekend. "It's like the culmination of summer, it's the last race I do before school starts. I'm a teacher."
All of Kathy's hard work paid off and her love of the Crim is now on display for everyone to see. Kathy debuted on the official race postcard.
"It was very funny. I've run the Crim very fast, not elite, but pretty fast, this was from last year my slowest Crim ever, but I have the most fun I've ever had."
For Kathy, the fun continues this year. She's running with her daughter and looking forward to meeting more new people along her 10 mile journey. "It's all social for us now, it's running, but it's also relationship building, and that's what the Crim did for us. You don't have to be just a runner, you can be part of a group of people who share the same kind of goals."
Kathy won't let her aging knees slow her down. She encourages everyone to participate at least once. "Just try it, find a buddy, find a group, don't do it alone and have a goal, our goal every year is to run the Crim, whether we run it fast or slow we're going to be there because I think it's important. I don't have any other races I feel that way about except that one, it's my favorite."
