(09/04/13) - A small town on the border of Lapeer and Tuscola counties is on
the lookout for a man who may be targeting children.
In the quiet little town of Silverwood, news travels fast - and bad news even faster. That's why the tight knit community is on high alert after word of an attempted child abduction.
"Kinda scary. I have a 12 year-old boy, and I don't want to send him out and about not knowing what could happen to him," said Ryan Grant.
Tuesday afternoon, police say a 12-year-old boy was approached outside his home by a stranger who suggested the boy leave with him.
"I believe he said something to affect of 'I can take you to a better place,'" said Garold Parson, of the Michigan State Police.
Investigators say the boy ran into his house to alert his family.
"When they came out, there was nobody there," Parson said.
The man police are looking for is described as white, in his 30's or 40's.
"Approximately 6 feet, medium build, sort of stocky," Parson said.
He is also believed to have greenish colored eyes and a distinctive scar on his neck. Authorities think he was driving a white pick-up truck.
If you've seen him, or know who he is, they'd like to hear from you.
Families in this small town are now paying close attention, being much more cautious and hoping police find whoever is responsible for disturbing their feelings of safety.
"I hope nobody around here finds him. We take care of our own," said Alma Matuszak.
"I don't know why anyone would come into this town and say 'OK, I'm going to abduct a kid,'" Grant said.
