(09/12/13) - It's been stopping traffic all week in Genesee Township.
"They're going 'What? Did I just see a bra? They're coming back around for a second look," said artist Cathy Brzeczkiewicz-Smith.
It is a bra, and a rather big one at that - 23 feet tall and 11 feet wide. It took breast cancer survivor and artist Cathy Brzeczkiewicz-Smith more than 150 hours to make.
"It took 11 shower curtains, that I made it with, shower curtains," she said.
The bra is actually a piece of art titled "Embracing with Strength and Grace."
"I was inspired by my mom, who passed away last year of cancer. I wanted to make something big and bold and beautiful and this is what I came up with. This is going to get a lot of attention," Brzeczkiewicz-Smith said.
Right now, it's mounted on Brzeczkiewicz-Smith's house, but next week, the big bra will be draped over the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge facility in Grand Rapids. It's an entry in Art Prize, one of the biggest art competitions in the world.
"I'm really excited about this. This is something [that] will be really shocking to a lot of people. They're going to see this in Grand Rapids and it's going up a lot higher than it is here," Brzeczkiewicz-Smith said.
After Art Prize is over, Cathy is donating her big bra to the American Cancer Society, and the ACS plans to take it on a very big tour."
"It's moving to the Bras Across the Grand event, which is on the Gillette Pedestrian Bridge in Grand Rapids on Oct.19, and then we're bringing it back to Flint where it will be displayed at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 26," said Evelyn Barella, of the American Cancer Society.
The top prize that this big bra could bring in at Art Prize - more than $100,000.
"I want it. I want it bad. I mean, who wouldn't?," Brzeczkiewicz-Smith said.
