(09/17/13) - A Mid-Michigan band is hoping to set sail in the Caribbean this winter, and they need your help.
The Swellers, featuring Nick and Jonathan Diener from Fenton, are one of more than 60 bands vying for a spot on the Weezer Cruise in February.
The band entered a video for their new song "Should" into the YouTube contest. The video was shot by drummer Jonathan Diener on a GoPro camera he wore while the band was on tour in Brazil earlier this year.
"I wore it on my chest while I was playing drums. And I did all this crazy stuff, I went underwater with it," he said. "And I compiled the footage into a music video and we debuted it on the Weezer Cruise contest."
The contestant who gets the most "likes" on their video wins two cabins and gets to perform a set on the Weezer Cruise along with a dozen other bands, headlined of course by the rock band Weezer.
The Diener brothers say Weezer has always been a big influence on them and earning a spot on the cruise would bring their career full circle.
"They were one of the first big shows we ever went to," Jonathan said.
"Yeah, they were one of the bands that made me realize I want to be up there doing that kind of thing," Nick said. "They were one of the reasons we started the Swellers in the first place, so getting to swing around and play with them on a boat would be really, really fun."
