Smelly home is causing a health concern

(10/16/13) - Neighbors say there is a problem in their neighborhood and they want to see action taken.

They say a home on 1617 Wisconsin Avenue in Flint is dangerous. Neighbors say they have complained to the homeowner and city time and time again.

The home has been condemned, which means it's not livable in its condition.

"Everybody complains about it. Everybody is sick of the smell," said Allen Hensley, a neighbor.

Neighbors who live on Wisconsin Avenue say they have been complaining about the home for the past two years.

"It smells like a septic tank," Hensley said.

"It's just terrible, the smell just makes you sick," said Carolyn Hill, a neighbor.

ABC12 obtained a list of some of the complaints filed with the city in May. It claims that there was no water at the home and that the owner rented the home to at least 10 people.
    
A violation notice was also sent to the owner in July of last year saying that the home was declared as a hazard, and dangerous.

"It's just been nothing but a troublesome house," Hensley said.

Around that time, neighbors say the renters moved out and they also say the drains in the house are broken and the basement is filling up with sewage.

"I'm concerned and it's stinking so bad you have to sit on your porch and breathe it at night and in the daytime. It seems like every 15 or 20 minutes when the wind is in your direction, you get a swift of the terrible smell," Hensley said.

The property owner declined to talk to ABC12, but when we came to the home on Tuesday, a sign was posted there. Wednesday, it had been taken down.

"This house has got to go, seriously, it's got to go. It's been a nuisance house, it's written on there as a nuisance house," Hensley said.
 
The city of Flint Development Division says they are aware of the problem and they are looking into the issue.
