(10/17/13) - Thursday was Make a Difference Day in Saginaw County.
More than 200 students from 16 different high schools gathered yard tools to spruce up some homes in which the owners needed some help with yard maintenance.
The students weeded and trimmed bushes, as well as did some painting.
This year, some veterans got some help.
The Saginaw Community Foundation says it's important that students give back to the community while learning some skills.
"This gives the students an opportunity to work as a team and team building exercises, they're from different schools, we bunch them up into different groups so they are not with their friends, they are with students from other areas and that helps them work with others," said Bryan Konieczka, of the Saginaw Community Foundation.
So far, in the 11 years, they have worked at a 148 sites including some parks, 90 of which were homes where the owners needed help.
