Oaktree Elementary student top contender in cooking contest

Posted: Updated:

(10/17/13) - Sadie Wisner has plenty of fans in Goodrich. The 8-year-old Oaktree Elementary school student is an aspiring chef.

"I like to cook, and my dad likes to eat," Sadie said.

Sadie is a top contender in the Uncle Ben's Beginner's Cooking Contest. She submitted a video as her entry, showing off what she believes is the best burrito in town.

"It's really good because it has bacon and sauce mixed together with it," she said.

"She's been really good, and she's been cooking in the kitchen with me for quite some time. She's a cook," said Sadie's mother, Dawn Wisner.

The kid cook with the most online votes earns $30,000 for a school cafeteria makeover.

Seventy-five of Sadie's classmates came out at 5 a.m. to show their support.

"We've got to get the votes out there. If she wins, we'll find a great use for the $30,000 and it will go right towards the kids, that's the best part," said Mike Ellis, Oaktree Elementary principal.

First place would also earn $15,000 for her family.

Once her culinary career takes flight, Sadie hopes to be just like her favorite TV chef.

"Rachel Ray, because she has a before plate and an after plate," Sadie said.

A top 3 finish would earn Sadie an appearance on the Rachel Ray Show.

"Awesome. I want to meet her so bad," Sadie said.
