Jury selection starts in Merlyne Wray murder trial

Posted: Updated:

(10/17/13) -  Jury selection is underway in the Merlyne Wray murder trial.

Wray, 73, was shot and killed inside her south side Flint home nearly three years ago.

Mark Jones, now 17, was just 14 then and charged as an adult. Jones is one of the youngest ever, if not the youngest, in Genesee County to be charged with murder.

Wray's family has been in court for all of the proceedings.

Her granddaughter, Karen Klutts, said she has mixed emotions.

"Good that it's here and it's kind of sad that we're going to have to relive it all again," Klutts said.

Jury selection began Thursday afternoon.

Jones is charged with murder, armed robbery, carjacking, home invasion, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

Jones also escaped custody in June of 2012. He was arrested about one week later. See story HERE. Jones faces two additional charges tied to that.
