(10/17/13) - Consumers Energy is footing more than $1 million for the Blight Blitz going on in Flint and Saginaw.
The money will be used to remove gas lines from homes soon to be demolished.
"For us, it's a partnership. If we can do something like this that brings the neighborhood, that brings growth back to the city, it brings growth to us in the long term for the utility, for the state and for this area. We're certainly glad to be part of that partnership," said Dan Malone, of Consumers Energy.
Flint and Saginaw, along with several other Michigan cities, are sharing $100 million in federal aid to tear down abandoned homes.
