(10/21/13) - New jobs are coming to Shiawassee County.

As we've been reporting since Friday, Midwest Bus Corporation is adding 100 jobs to its two Owosso facilities.

They're hiring right now, and are looking for dedicated people, who aren't afraid of hard work.

It's hard work that Tim Francis has been doing for 28 years. "Stability. It's you know, nowadays hard to get a job anywhere."

Soon, he'll have more help.

That's something the company's CEO is very proud of.

"Rebuilding puts people to work. And I think we all know anybody's who's been around Michigan, for the years that we've been around, getting people back to work has to be our number one priority," said Dan Morrill, Midwest's CEO.

Midwest inked a new $31.4 million deal with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to refurbish 192 buses in two years.

Francis says that's a lot of work. "We'll be hopping. We'll be living here."

Midwest says it's the largest transit bus remanufacturer in the country.

In addition the company says it does more than 90 percent of transit bus repairs east of the Mississippi River.

Gov. Rick Snyder toured the Owosso business Monday.

He learned the good news that starts here, doesn't end here. "I also met a supplier or two that talked about how they were adding jobs. Michigan suppliers able to grow because of the work being done here."

"It just snowballs and it's been a good shot for us too," said Bruce Grubba, with American Technical Fabricators.

The Bad Axe based business is one of 400 Michigan suppliers who deal with Midwest.

"We're not a very big company but we were able to add maybe a half a dozen extra people one and maybe looking at starting a second shift," Grubba said.

Growth that's described as a win-win for everyone involved from the CEO, to suppliers, to the workers.

"Good place to work. You know good people to work for," Francis said.

"A hundred jobs in Owosso or any place in Michigan is important because we're talking about people's families and the chance to be successful and grow and have a place where we can keep our kids here," Snyder said.

Aside from that Boston contract, some other customers include MTA in Flint, Indian Trails, and even the People Mover in Detroit.
