Neighbors hope federal dollars will repair rocky Flint Township road

Posted: Updated:

(10/21/13) - Not only is it a nuisance, neighbors say a road in Flint Township is a hazard for drivers.

But the township might finally be able to do something about it.

They have a few hundred thousand dollars in federal dollars coming their way, and they're hoping to put it toward this rocky road.

One trip down River Forest Drive and it's easy to see, it's plagued with potholes.

"When cars come out in the morning instead of driving on the right side of the road they drive on the left side," said Henry Bazemore, who lives on the road.

Drivers say the crater-like cracks in the road have knocked their cars out of alignment, and they're worried about kids as they walk to the school bus.

That's what packed people into Monday night's Flint Township board meeting. The township will have roughly $250,000 in federal community block grant funds to spend on various projects.

But the money can only be used in a low to moderate income area. First, the township must prove that the River Forest area qualifies.

Then, they should be able to start those much-needed repairs.

The township says they're waiting on census results to see if the area qualifies.
