$35,000 worth of lawn care equipment stolen from small, family business

(10/24/13) - Instead of gearing up for snow removal, owners of a small, family business had to buy thousands of dollars worth of brand new lawn care equipment after theirs was stolen Monday.

Owners of The Grasshoppers Lawn Care Services estimate the damage, just for what was taken from their Grand Blanc Township storage yard, to be right around $35,000.

Co-Owner Eric Hart said he came back to grab something from a truck, Monday night, and noticed the gate had been tampered with.

"It was open," he said. "I pulled in and immediately noticed the trailer was missing from the truck."

So was everything on it - two, pricey zero turn, Gravely mowers, other lawn care equipment and tools from the truck bed.

Hart said it was the second robbery in just a matter of months during the entire time they've been in business for the last five years.  He said they had about $4,000 worth of equipment taken in June.

"We're just hoping the community responds and does the right thing," Hart said. "I want somebody to report it, obviously yes, and I know the township is doing all that they can."

Even after the huge hit, Hart said they're offering a $1,500 reward for any information about the robbery.

Grand Blanc Township Police are investigating. Call them if you know anything about the Monday incident.
