Flint street leaf pick up no longer an option: city introduces new bag program

Posted: Updated:

(10/27/13) - If you're a homeowner in the city of Flint, big changes are coming to how you dispose of leaves in the fall.

Getting rid of those leaves in your yard is going to mean a little bit more work on your part.

Up until now, homeowners could simply rake the leaves into the street and the city would take care of it.

Now, the city is requiring neighbors to rake leaves into bio-degradable paper yard bags or clearly marked 35 gallon cans.

Someone will come pick up the bags or cans on their weekly scheduled garbage pick up day.

Leaves should no longer be swept into the street, and plastic bags won't be accepted.

The city is partnering with Republic Services to make this happen.

This pick up program will last through the end of November, and the city is encouraging neighbors to help others who might not be able to rake or bag themselves.
