(10/30/13) - We haven't trick or treated yet, but people are already starting to think about Christmas shopping.
The thought can be very stressful for families in need. The Salvation Army wants to help.
Wednesday, the Salvation Army started taking applications for its holiday assistance program.
Between now and Nov. 1, families can sign up at the Flint Citadel Corps on Kearsley in Downtown Flint or the Beecher Corps on Coldwater Road.
Sign up is from 9:30-2:30 each day.
"We're trying to do accommodations with what our clients are dealing with. We change our plan and our program each year to kind of accommodate what's going on," said Major Kris Augenstin, of the Salvation Army.
About 1,200 families are expected to participate.
In order to sign up, bring a current ID, proof of dependents, current bills and proof of income.
