Judge recuses himself in Michael Chatterson case

Posted: Updated:
GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(11/01/13) - The attorney for a former Genesee County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant, accused of sexually assaulting and harassing female co-workers, says he will soon ask a judge to dismiss the case altogether.

This following another eventful day in court for the Michael Chatterson Case.

Chatterson's attorney Frank Manley claimed the sheriff's department ordered employees to not discuss the case - even those with subpoenas.

Manley said the presiding judge, 68th District Court Judge Nathaniel Perry, recused himself meaning another judge will now have to hear the case.  Judge Herman Marable has been assigned.

Manley said Perry had concerns about potentially being a witness in the case because he was interviewed by a sheriff's department employee conducting an internal investigation.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said the case will continue to move forward.
