VG's closing area stores in Flint Township, Burton

GENESEE COUNTY (WJRT) -

(11/06/13) - Hundreds of employees will lose their jobs just days after Christmas.

Workers tell us they got the bad news last week that VG'S is closing down stores in our area.

A spokesperson from ELGA Credit Union, which has a branch inside the Flint Township VG's, confirmed Thursday that VG's will close their Flint Township and Burton locations.

A VG's store employees tells us he's hearing about 300 people at three stores could lose their jobs. The employee did not want his identity revealed.

We left messages for Spartan Stores, VG's parent company, but we have not heard back from them.

As far as employees losing their jobs, they will not be able to "bump" within the company - or move someone else with lower seniority out of a position at other stores.

According to the employee we talked to, they can apply for other positions, but they are not guaranteed a job according to the store.
