LAPEER (WJRT) -

(11/12/13) - ABC12 is at the scene of what Lapeer County 911 dispatchers are calling a "major fire in downtown Lapeer City".

They advise people to "please avoid the area" so emergency crews have a clear path.

We're awaiting more details, but it looks like the historic PIX Theater is at least one of the buildings burning.

Several fire departments are on scene.

Follow this story for developing details and tune in for a live update on ABC12 News at 11.

*UPDATE 9:45PM* - Lapeer Fire Chief is not confirming rumors about arson, but says the State Fire Marshall is there to investigate.

The flames started in the business next to the PIX Theater.

About 15-20 people are displaced from upper level apartments.

The American Red Cross is also there to assist those residents.

*UPDATE 11:45PM* - Lapeer's assistant fire chief says the fire started around 7 p.m. Tuesday in an apartment above Burke's Flowers.

People living in the apartments were evacuated, but no one was hurt.

Fire crews and state fire investigators are expected to be on the scene through the night and into Wednesday.
