Flint Mayor in DC talking manufacturing

(12/05/13) - Mayors from across the country gathered in our nation's capital Thursday to discuss manufacturing and Flint mayor Dayne Walling was one of the participants.

Walling and 20 other mayors met with the Secretaries of Commerce and Transportation near the White House.

The focus: how communities can grow manufacturing and put people to work.

Walling participated in a panel discussion about manufacturing competitiveness.

He spoke to our Washington Bureau about what he was able to bring to the table.

"We have made tremendous progress in our brownfield remediations, and the announcement with the American Pipe Company moving there, the great investments GM has made in our facilities to produce world-class vehicles and components right in the City of Flint. We also completed our comprehensive master plan, and a big part of that is linking economy development and education around innovation and manufacturing," Walling said.

The mayors of Fenton and Lansing also represented Michigan at Thursday's manufacturing meeting.
