Posted: Updated:
FLINT (WJRT) -

(12/09/13) - Flint City Councilman Eric Mays is now facing four misdemeanors after being arrested for drunken driving last month.

Mays was arrested early in the morning on Nov. 30.

Police say he was drunk, driving the wrong way down I-475 on four flat tires.

He was formally charged on Friday.

He's facing four misdemeanors, including driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, refusing to be finger-printed and no proof of insurance.

Mays was just elected to his first ward city council seat this last election.

Now, Flint Emergency Manager Darnell Earley wants Mays to step down now that his drunken driving arrest has gone public. Earley also says Mays verbally abused support staff in the mayor's office and the police department.

According to Michigan's Emergency Manager Law, Earley can recommend that Mays be removed from city council. The governor has the final say.

We talked to Mays, Monday, and he insists that he is not going to resign.
