National Cemetery honor guards no longer have trailer to stay warm

HOLLY TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(12/10/13) - Honor guards at the Great Lakes National Cemetery don't like the cold weather very much.

The guards attend burial ceremonies at the cemetery and they used to be able to stay warm between services in a small trailer parked on the grounds, but the trailer was recently deemed unsafe and cemetery officials took it away.

Now members of the honor guard have no place to go, except the visitors center, to get out of the cold.

"There'd be snow in there. We'd have to warm it up a little bit. At least it was shelter. Now we're going to have to come all the way back here and you can't come back up here within a half hour between funerals," said Hank Bastian, National Cemetery honor guard.

The cemetery director says a new shelter should be available soon.
