Baker College of Flint prepares to open new Center for Business

FLINT TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -

(12/11/13) - Baker College of Flint is almost done building its new business center.

It will be ready for students when winter quarter classes begin next month.

The multi-million dollar renovation of the existing Undergraduate Studies Building started last summer.

When finished, the new Center for Business will house Baker College of Flint's 21 business programs and Business Center.

There was a big push to include all aspects of technology, so that's what you'll see when this is complete.

All of the classrooms will have iPads in them for students to use, interactive whiteboards and live teleconferencing capabilities.

Students can work on their own, in groups and then with the entire class with a few swipes of their fingers.

"This immediate feedback ends up producing a student who is going to go out on a job interview and be able to speak knowledgeably, knowledgeably about what they've learned and maybe what they've learned not to do and be able to substantiate that with reference material they gained in a regular classroom," said Baker College of Flint President Julianne Princinsky.

More than 10 classes are currently using a pilot classroom.

"We can get right onto the iPads, each individually come up with an idea, and show it on the main screen to our groups and then to the classroom," said student Tiffany Soldan.

Baker College of Flint already partners with local businesses to give students a very real world based education.

They hope to build upon that and help build businesses too.

A public open house is being planned for early spring.
