Plans to revitalize Flint's Civic Park neighborhood halted

FLINT (WJRT) -

(12/11/13) - A plan to turn a vacant Flint school into a 20,000 square foot manufacturing facility and revitalize the Civic Park neighborhood has been pulled off the table.

Flint businessman Phil Shaltz wanted to purchase the school and help pave the way for the new plant for St. Luke's New Life medical scrub business.

But, uncertainty over whether Civic Park's historic designation can be lifted so demolition can begin, has led to a change in direction.

New Life will now expand its gymnasium at St. Luke's to have room for more production and workers.

Construction can be complete in a matter of months.

The company was founded four years ago to create jobs and opportunities for area women who are struggling with poverty and addiction.
