SAGINAW (WJRT) -

(12/16/13) - They're considered to be key factors when it comes to revitalizing downtown Saginaw.

The Bancroft and Eddy buildings are expected to give the heart of Saginaw a new and improved look.

Monday, some community leaders are getting a look at the renovations underway at one of the buildings.

This is the first time that community leaders got to get their first tour of the building as a group. A few dozen of them were there.

Everyone from the mayor, to the police chief got to see the inside.

They say this is a sign of new beginnings for Saginaw.

The property manager says they got their occupancy permit Monday, which means the first tenant is expected to move into the Eddy building Tuesday.

So far, at least 10 people have signed leases.

There are 30 apartments and about six on each floor. They range from $600 to $795 a month.

The majority of the tenants are expected to move in by February.

Some say what they saw exceeded their expectations.

"I think it's going to be real good for downtown Saginaw and we've been looking to do this for 20 years and the day has finally come, I think they're going to attract a lot of people down here.  I like the space, it's almost like living in a hotel but it's your residence," said council member Norman Braddock.

"Being a part of the project is really exciting, it's the whole revitalization and just the excitement in the air and the people who are coming in here wanting to move in here are just excited about the whole project," said Kelly Ortega, the property manager.

Work continues on the Bancroft building. The property manager says the goal is to start the leasing process in May.
