(12/17/13) - You may do a double-take when you see MDOT's newest snowplow here in Mid-Michigan.
Tuesday, the department showed off the "Tow Plow".
It's a little different than regular plows. It may even look like the snowplow is jack-knifing from behind, but it's not. It has a plow blade that swings out on the right side of the truck and plows two lanes instead of one.
"In addition to being one less driver and truck we have to pull out on the road, it will do twice the amount of work and it has about a 30 year service life on it, which is three-times as long as one of our standard snowplows," said Gregg Brunner, MDOT Bay Region.
MDOT tested one "Tow Plow" last year. They liked it so much they bought three more for this season.
One will be stationed in Saginaw County and primarily used on I-75.
